The Block Arcade
Collins Street to Little Collins
For a chocoholic like me, the highlight of the 19th century Block Arcade is not the intricate etched glass roof. Nor is it the magnificent decorative wrought iron and timber supports cupping the glass. Or, in fact the elaborate mosaic floors - apparently the largest in Australia. For me – and many a chocoholic, the thrill of the Block Arcade comes from the delightfully heady scent of Haighs Chocolates wafting down each of the three entry points into the Arcade. While we can’t claim the Adelaide-born chocolatier as our own, Haigh’s has been adopted by every Melbourne sweet tooth. Try the peppermint frogs if you just want a taster, or indulge in a full-on care pack of handmade chocolates if you’re feeling terribly indulgent. Oh, and The Block Arcade features some gorgeous boutique shops – if that’s your personal form of chocolate.
